Excelling in Virtual Presentation

Last week, I facilitated a 1-day interactive virtual workshop for a major corporation on the theme ‘Excelling in Virtual Presentation.’ COVID changed many things forever, including bringing virtual presentations to the front.

Before COVID, very few organizations employed virtual presentations. During COVID, companies were forced (their hands twisted) to use virtual platforms such as:

  1. WebEx,
  2. Adobe Connect,
  3. Zoom, and
  4. Microsoft Teams to communicate within and outside of their organization.

Even if COVID is gone, some of its impacts remain. Fewer organizations went back to all in-person workspace. Many crafted policies and guidelines that acknowledged the importance of implementing a hybrid environment. They chose to exploit the most important benefits of in-person with the advantages of working remotely.

By the way, as a business broker and Commercial Real Estate professional, I’ve witnessed how badly COVID-19 damaged the office building market.

During COVID, there was lively hope that this asset class would recover once COVID-19 was over. That didn’t happen!

  • The overwhelming majority of organizations didn’t renew their leases.
  • They decided to lease much smaller office spaces.
  • Those who had their own mega properties sold and leased cheaper and smaller offices. This trend may continue in the coming years at a faster rate…

Here is a devastating projection from Cushman and Wakefield that doesn’t show any bright future for this property class: “…330 million square feet of US office space could become vacant and unused by 2030 due to remote and hybrid work…”

Slowly but surely, knowing the unpleasant fate of this asset class, both elected officials and owners are working hard to convert office buildings into other asset classes.

Unfortunately, the process isn’t easy and cheap.

Regardless, this is a smart decision. It is better to make a quick transition rather than keep losing money on an asset that may never recover. The sooner they’re converted to a property type that brings positive cash flow, the better…

That said, if you’re interested in selling or buying commercial properties or businesses, don’t hesitate to reach out.

I’m licensed in:

  1. DC,
  2. MD,
  3. VA, and
  4. FL.

Outside of the above four states, I have many great partners. I can connect you with the right brokers in the market you’re interested in.

Coming back to virtual presentation, whether you’re a professional, leader, or entrepreneur, you can’t afford to neglect your ability to present virtually like a pro. The times have changed, and one can’t succeed and thrive in the post COVID era without excelling in virtual presentation…

Remember, many of the skills you have developed to communicate in person are transferable. Nevertheless, considering the number of moving targets and things that could go wrong, virtual presentation requires additional competencies and practices.

To excel at presenting virtually, there are three major areas to work on:

  1. Design your content for maximum impact in a virtual setting.
  2. Know your audience and tailor your material to match with their expectations, preferences, and goals.
  3. Sit in a quiet place and in front of a professional background, and deliver your speech by engaging your audience and maximizing the features of the platform you’re using.

That said, I’ve a plan to create an education video clip to share the most important considerations to succeed as a virtual presenter. Make sure to subscribe to our channel so that you will get notified when we upload this and other video clips.
