Even experienced leaders find providing tough feedback challenging. The toughest part is offering it to the people you love and those who have leverage over you, including your superiors.
The stakes are high:
1. Since you care about these relationships, you don’t want to rock the boat, to say the least.
2. You may worry that the feedback may harm or even damage the relationships.
3. You’re unsure whether they take the ‘harsh’ truth you’re telling them gracefully.
4. You are concerned that there is a chance that the feedback may irritate, anger, or even push them to the edge and make them react harshly.
Because of these concerns and fears, you refrain from sharing…
Most relationships, partnerships, and collaborations would have been:
1. Rescued,
2. Improved, and
3. Taken to the next level, if we just get a little bolder to share TOUGH feedback before it is too late…
The good news is that, like every other skill, this, too, can be:
1. Developed,
2. Improved, and
3. Mastered.
Here is one fact: The more you advance in your career, leadership, and entrepreneurship, the more you need this crucial skill set if you desire to:
1. Attract,
2. Keep, and
3. Nurture relationships and expand your influence beyond your backyard and scope…
We design and deliver programs that fast-track this skill set and have heard great feedback from our participants and coaches.
This is one of the remarks of those who took the program: “I should have taken this long time ago…”
In this clip, you will get a glimpse of what we share with our clients.
I briefly mentioned the three types of feedback and offered some tips to improve one’s ability to excel at providing tough feedback.
