From Cockpit to C-Suite: Leading with Vision, Discipline, and Legacy (Captain Abiy Makonnen Beri)

This week, we’re honored to feature Captain Abiy Makonnen Beri, a visionary leader whose journey from the cockpit to the executive boardroom is transforming industries and inspiring global leadership.

Captain Abiy is the CEO of JAG-AvDyne, a leading Black-owned aviation maintenance and engineering firm, and CEO & Co-Founder of BlessedRoots, an international money transfer app powered by CashGo USA. Focused on reducing remittance costs for the global diaspora, BlessedRoots is rapidly becoming a preferred payment platform, thanks to his strategic leadership and commitment to user-centered innovation.

He also serves as Managing Partner of JAG-Elevate, where he drives cross-sector collaboration, leadership development, and infrastructure growth across aviation, fintech, and education.

Captain Abiy is also the Chief Commercial Officer of Avdyne Aeroservices, LLC, a Maryland-based aviation company supporting major U.S. airlines with maintenance and engineering solutions.

With over 35 years of experience in aviation — spanning flight operations, pilot training, and executive leadership — Captain Abiy brings unmatched expertise and a deep commitment to excellence. His roots in aviation run deep: his father was among the pioneers who helped build Ethiopian Airlines into Africa’s flagship carrier, and today, Captain Abiy continues that legacy by building bridges between continents, industries, and generations.

As a John C. Maxwell Certified Leadership Coach, he is passionate about mentoring emerging leaders and shaping a future grounded in purpose, discipline, and values.
