14 Feb Strategies Without Implementation Tactics, Supportive Habits, and Systems Are Useless
Having a strategic plan is a good start. However, we won’t benefit from our grand strategies until we break them down into daily tasks, create systems and processes, develop habits, and make ourselves accountable daily.
For example, let’s say you have great strategies that dictate how you stay healthy, positive, and optimistic. That is great! Many people may not even think about being strategic. They may have some New Year Resolutions or Wish Lists 🙂 You’ve some concrete strategies that can deliver RESULTS; be cheerful!
But, your strategies will be rendered useless until you have the corresponding habits and mechanisms to implement the strategies on a daily basis.
For instance, one of my habits that helps me stay healthy, positive, and upbeat is to meditate daily, even for a few minutes. Another one is to stay mindful the entire day- stop what I do a couple of times and be aware of what is happening within and around me.
Sticking my meditation habit was easy. As soon as I wake up, I sit to meditate. What has been hard is staying mindful the entire day…
To stay mindful, I use different hacks, one of which is to create sticky notes that remind me to take some seemingly minute daily actions.
Some of them are easy, while others take some effort.
1. For the sticky note: DRINK LOTS OF WATER. Easy, as soon as I read that sticky note on the fridge, I IMMEDIATELY pour a glass of water and drink. No need to overthink.
2. For the sticky note: PFAT, I need to stop whatever I am doing to scan my body and hear what my Physical body is telling me, Feel the emotions I’m experiencing, be mindful of how I may Appear to other people, and focus on my Thinking.
I don’t want to bore you. The hack for me is to focus on my THINKING. That is where I’ve control. By changing the focus of my THINKING, I can change everything else…
BTW, we use PFAT as one of the tools in our Emotional Intelligence workshops. Many of our audience have been telling us that this tool helped them to stay mindful.
