Handling Disruption With Grace

For the 1st time, I facilitated a workshop wearing a sneaker and travel clothes! I’m not talking about a webinar 🙂 For the latter, I have worn the worst 🙂

The airline sent my luggage to another airport. This isn’t what you want to happen when you’re preparing to deliver a high-stakes presentation skills workshop for world-class scientists.

I don’t want to bore you with details and the hoops I had to jump through to deal with this worst travel experience.

What amazed me was the distance I’ve come in my personal development. If you’ve taken MBTI and you’re a J, you sympathize with me and appreciate my improvement.

I’m the guy who plans everything and gets pissed off when a little detail doesn’t go my way and as planned. In the past, this episode would have made me:
1. Lose my cool,
2. Mad
2. Frustrated,
3. Struggle to sleep, and
4. Worked up…

The good news this time was that I handled this disruption with grace. This is what I teach my audience and coachees. I don’t want to teach others what I don’t live by.

Glad to see that I’ve come a long way. This is a blessing in disguise. I’d not have known my resilience if this hadn’t happened.

What about you? Have you lost your luggage? What happened? How did you handle it?
