28 Jan Interview on 3 Most Important Soft Skills
Many professionals, leaders, and entrepreneurs still underestimate the power and effects of soft skills—and it’s costing them more than they realize.
I had a great live conversation with the host of Hardcore Soft Skills podcast Yadira (Yadi) Caro on why soft skills are often dismissed, which ones matter most, and how leaders can actually develop them.
We explored three soft skills (people skills) that show up everywhere—in leadership, business, and life:
1. One soft skill to lead yourself well
2. One soft skill to work effectively with others
3. One soft skill to lead and influence others based on my book entitled “Soft Skills That Make or Break Your Success“
Let me just pick one of the soft skills we covered. For self-leadership, we talked about emotional intelligence—and why trying to “control” emotions directly often backfires.
Two people can hear the same bad news.
1. One gets consumed by fear.
2. The other feels the same shock—but doesn’t stay trapped in it.
The difference isn’t personality. It’s skill.
We also unpacked:
1. The science behind how emotions are formed and where
2. Why emotional regulation is indirect, not force-based
3. What most people misunderstand about emotional awareness
4. A practical way to build this skill over time
If soft skills have ever felt vague or “nice to have,” this conversation may change how you and your team see them.
