On top of attracting more attention to you and your ideas, products, and services, going the extra mile will save you tons of money, time, and energy, which is required to gain new clients, partners, and stakeholders.
The world has become so competitive that one must be the best in what one does and go the extra mile to keep one’s existing clients, partners, and opportunities one already has, let alone acquire new ones.

Settling and camping are tempting when someone becomes good at what she/he does. In the 21st century, however, that is a liability, not an asset.
Think of a management team interested in hiring a senior professional. Yes, they may be interested in the professional’s qualifications, experience, and personality. Whether the professional is a high performer and can outperform those competing for the post makes or breaks whether to hire this person.
Think of a Board searching for a new CEO. Sure, they conduct background checks. Yes, they are looking for someone who has been a CEO or at least in a senior executive leadership role. Nonetheless, the CEO who will get the job is the one who has a proposal that will achieve 20 – 30 % Annual growth. They can find CEOs who attain an average of 10% growth everywhere. They can’t easily find a CEO who isn’t average, a CEO who goes the extra mile to overdeliver.
You don’t need to be a CEO or a senior professional to acquire this quality. Wherever you may be right now and wherever you’re heading next, don’t forget to remember that one of the traits that will take you far and strategically position you to succeed and stay relevant is your ability to overdeliver.
